COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho – We have yet to hit wildfire season here in the Inland Northwest, but that doesn't mean forest officials aren't ready.
US Forest Service officials tell KHQ that the outlook so far is good. Recent rains have put us above average for moisture, making the fire danger right now low.
Right now, at least four states are battling active wildfires, Colorado being the worst.
There are also around 120-local firefighters normally stationed in north Idaho that are in Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico fighting those fires.
Officials with the US Forest Service say that as we shift in to our wildfire season, most of those fire fighters will come back to the Inland Northwest.
