PRESS RELEASE FROM CITY OF SPOKANE: Spokane Mayor David Condon joined elected and community leaders from around Spokane and Washington state in praising the U.S. Air Force's decision to name Fairchild Air Force Base as one of the finalists to house the new KC-46A aerial refueling tankers.
"This is great news. Fairchild is Spokane's largest employer and a huge part of our economy and our community. Bringing these tankers to Fairchild will create more jobs and secure a strong future for the base," says Mayor Condon. "The Air Force today recognized the tremendous asset they have in Fairchild—something our community has known for a long time."
The Mayor thanked Sen. Patty Murray, Sen. Maria Cantwell, and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, as well as local business and community leaders and Greater Spokane Incorporated, for their hard work on this issue.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane is a finalist to house the next generation of air refueling tanker planes. That announcement was made jointly Wednesday by Washington senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash. Fairchild is currently home to KC-135 aerial refueling tankers and has invested over $400 million in base infrastructure over the last several decades. The lawmakers say Fairchild already possesses much of the needed capacity to accommodate the new KC-46A aerial refueling tanker, including a 14,000 foot runway and a new wing command headquarters.
