March Madness Returning To The Arena

Spokane Arena Press Release:

Washington State University and the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena are pleased to announce that March Madness will return to Spokane in 2014. The NCAA revealed this morning that Spokane has been selected as a host city for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship Second & Third Rounds.

"The bid process was as competitive as ever, with 53 cities expressing the desire to be a part of one of the world's premier sporting events," NCAA Vice President of Men's Basketball Dan Gavitt said. "We are thrilled for our hosts for the '14 tournaments, as they include a mix of cities that have proven over the course of several decades how to stage this great event, as well as cities that have come on to the scene in recent years and have embraced the tournament."

The Spokane games are currently scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 20, 2014 and Saturday, March 22, 2014. Over those two days of heated competition, Spokane will witness six games and cheer on eight teams as they vie for a chance to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The 2014 games will mark the eighth time since 2001 that Washington State University and the Spokane Arena have worked together to bring either Men's or Women's NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament's to Spokane. Both organizations are thrilled with the NCAA's announcement.

"We are pleased to be one of the host sites for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship Second & Third Rounds," WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos said. "Teaming with the Spokane Arena and their tremendous staff, we have successfully hosted NCAA Basketball Championships in past years and look forward to doing so again in 2014."

"We couldn't be more excited to team up with Washington State University to bring NCAA Basketball back to Spokane," said Matt Gibson, General Manager of the Spokane Arena.

"This is another great example of how the enthusiasm of this region and the hard work of WSU and the Spokane Public Facilities District results in amazing NCAA events in Spokane. We are very grateful for this opportunity."

Information on how to purchase tickets to the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship Second & Third Rounds at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena will be announced soon.
