Man Drowns While Rafting On Spokane River

SPOKANE, Wash. - A man died after being submerged in the cold waters of the Spokane River for more than an hour Saturday afternoon.

Spokane Fire Department officials say the man was rafting down the river at about 1:00PM with another friend when he fell out of the raft next the bridge at People's Park at Riverside and Clark. Firefighters were on scene within three or four minutes and quickly located the victim who was entangled in branches underwater next to the bridge.

Due to the hazardous condition of the running water and the spot where the victim was trapped, it took firefighters about an hour to cut away the branches and retrieve the body. The man, who has not yet been identified but we are told is in his 30's was transported to Deaconess where he was later pronounced dead.

KHQ has a crew working on this story and we will update you with any new information as soon as it becomes available.
