PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE VALLEY POLICE DEPT: On Wednesday night, April 24, 2013, at 9:00 p.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies assisted a federal agency in apprehending a wanted fugitive.
The suspect, 20-year-old Travis Beavers, had fled federal agents and a short time later his vehicle was found in a ditch, abandoned, in the area of Dishman Mica and Appleway. Beavers was considered armed and dangerous and had a history of possessing firearms.
Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies assisted and set up a perimeter to locate Beavers. Deputy Jeff Thurman and his K9 partner Laslo responded to the scene and a short time later, located Beavers hiding in an outhouse several blocks from the vehicle. Beavers failed to listen to Deputy Thurman's commands to exit the outhouse and was introduced to Laslo. Beavers was taken into custody and when Deputy Thurman asked Beavers why he did not listen to his commands, he said he had dealt with a police K9 in the past and was "scared".
Beavers was released to federal agents after he was treated and released at a local hospital.
