A Spokane Summer staple is just a few days away. Hoopfest 2013 will be made up of 28,000 players, 3,000 volunteers and it will be bringing together families from all over the globe. Executive Director Rick Steltenpohl says that they are ready for all of the action, but they are taking some extra security precautions this year.
Spokane Police leadership told KHQ today that they will have more than 60 officers working each day. Along with that there will be about 25 of their reserves and volunteers working to do whatever is needed. SWAT Officers will also be around and Spokane Regional Air Support and Border Patrol will be flying overhead.
Spokane Police has increased their presence from last year and Hoopfest reimburses the city for 60% of all costs.
