Former NFL Star Credits Success To Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program

KHQ.COM - Darrin Smith, a linebacker on two Super Bowl championship teams with the Dallas Cowboys, and two national collegiate championship teams at the University of Miami, was the featured speaker at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest's annual benefit breakfast Friday morning at Northern Quest Resort. Darrin credits his development as a youth and success as an adult to the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program.

Before his football career started, he was a young boy from a single parent home in Miami. He lost his dad when he was 3 years old due to violence and his mom enrolled him the Big Brothers Big Sisters program at the age of 8 so that he would have a male role model in his life. He states that Seymour, his Big Brother, taught him life lessons (hard work, dedication, setting & achieving goals) that he still carries with him to this day. 31 years after they met, they still have a strong relationship.    During his 12-year career in the NFL, Darrin played for the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints and the Seahawks. He now serves as a celebrity ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters.      Darrin stopped by the KHQ studios for an interview with Dave Cotton, who himself mentored a little brother in the BBBS program during his time living in Atlanta.
