Spokane Valley Fire Department Press Release:
On Tuesday units from the Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a fire reported at 5:03 PM at 900 N. Fancher Rd in the Spokane Valley. Workers at a neighboring business saw smoke coming from the building and called 911.
First arriving fire engine company found a large commercial building with smoke coming from the roll up doors at the northern end of the building. Business representatives met them and explained that the fire was located in a paint booth within the building. They stated that there were 20 employees working inside the building at the time of the fire and that they were all out and accounted for.
One male employee suffered from smoke inhalation. He was treated by fire department paramedics, and then transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center. It is believed that his injuries are not life treating.
Fire crews had to cut holes in the roof of the structure to allow heat and smoke to escape so that the fire could be extinguished. Firefighters controlled the fire within 30 minutes. There were nine fire department apparatus including two from the Spokane Fire Department at the scene. Traffic on Fancher was blocked during the fire operations from Broadway to Desmet.
While it is known the occurred within a paint booth, the cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time. Damage estimates also are not available as well as how soon the business can reoccupy the building.
