Like Father, Like Daughter -- Mike and Amanda Furrer

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Rifle Club is one of Mike Furrer's favorite places, and it's also his daughter Amanda's sanctuary. "It all started here," Furrer said.

Amanda and Mike have a special relationship. They are not just daughter and dad, they are also former coach and student. Mike coached Amanda in shooting from the time she picked up a rifle until she went away to college at Ohio State University. Mike said he loves what he has with Amanda. "To be able to hang around and have that kind of influence with your daughter with your son is one thing, with a daughter is another," Mike said.  And now, Amanda is an Olympian. Mike and his wife, Vicki, are off to London to cheer their little girl. Mike gets nervous every time she shoots, but he says he's not nervous about the things she can control, like her position. He is more nervous about the gusts of wind, or the unpredictable weather, that could completely change the game. But he doesn't let Amanda know what he is thinking. "I don't want to show any anxiety in case she looks back," Mike said.  He will protect her mental game until the last shot.
