AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. - A new commander will be taking over at Fairchild Air Force Base as Col. Paul Guemmer heads to the Midwest for his next assignment.
Col. Guemmer tells KHQ on Thursday that the past two years here have been special, and that the biggest challenge while here was the complete demolition and replacement of the 14,000 foot runway in just under 11 months.
He also says a lot is asked of all our military and sometimes that means moving and taking on new challenges.
Col. Brian Newberry will be the one to take command of the 92nd Air Refueling Wing.
The change of guard will take place next week.
