SPOKANE, Wash. - An elderly man was trapped in his car for over an hour and a half Monday evening after his vehicle slid down an embankment west of Spokane.
Rescue crews first got the call of a car half over an embankment just after 6:30 Monday evening from a jogger who just happened to be in the area.
It happened near Assembly and Thorpe in a fairly remote area that is usually used by hikers.
Spokane County Sheriffs deputies were first on scene and quickly pulled the man out of the car that had become high centered.
Crews from Fire District 10 arrived a short time later to treat the man who is in his 70's.
Shaken up but uninjured, the man was able to tell them that he was attempting to drive back out onto the road when the sun got in his eyes, causing him to nearly roll his car.
Paramedics did not find any injuries on the man but decided to transport him to the hospital so he could get checked out.
Hidden in a heavily wooded area, emergency personnel say he was lucky he was spotted or he may have been there through the night.
