SPOKANE, Wash. - The dog days of summer are officially here.
Monday was the fifth-straight day of above-average temperatures and It's a stretch of hot weather - with
temperatures consistently in the 90s - the area hasn't seen in more than a
decade.
According to KHQ's Leslie Lowe, the heat is not going to let up
any time soon.
And nothing beat the heat
wave quite like a splash pad.
Little Hawk Gamble didn't have a care in the world as he ran
through water falls and fountains at Manito Park's splash pad on
Monday.
"He likes playing in the water," dad Erik Gamble said. "It's nice,
we love it. It's better than
the rain. He gets to come out here and enjoy himself."
Fun aside, the cool waters also offer a break from the heat at
home where many like the Gamble family are suffering through summer without air
conditioning.
"Downstairs is ok but upstairs is ridiculous," Erik explained
about his apartment in the heat.
Last year, employees at Ace hardware on the South Hill had a
backlog of fans and air conditioning equipment. But with this year's heat wave,
a rush for fans and air conditioning units nearly cleared out the store.
"There's a constant, steady flow of people coming in picking up
fans," Cole Thompson said, an Ace employee.
No matter which way you decide to cool off, Leslie Lowe says the
stretch of hot weather is expected to continue.
For now, Hawk and his family are making the most of the heat,
soaking it up while they can.
**Leslie Lowe's Forecast:**
Tonight: Mainly Cloudy, scattered showers and
thunderstorms....warm overnight temps. 67°
Tuesday: Partly Sunny, isolated Mtn. showers and thunderstorms.
