City Of Spokane: 13 Candidates Apply For Police Chief Job

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF SPOKANE: The City of Spokane is reviewing application packets from
13 candidates for the job of Spokane Police Chief. Spokane Mayor David Condon
expects to name a new Chief in August.
"I am excited to continue with the selection process for a
new Police Chief," says Mayor Condon. "We need strong leadership to continue
our work to restore public trust and confidence in the Spokane Police
Department."
The City re-launched its search for a new Police Chief last
month and accepted applications through June 30. The pool of applicants includes
some from that June recruitment period and some from recruitment that was done
earlier. It is possible that the City could receive one or more additional
applications if they were postmarked by Saturday, June 30.
Finalists are expected to be named later this month. They
will participate in five interview panels made up of:

City executives and elected leaders.
Current and retired law enforcement
professionals.
Community and business leaders.
Members of the Public Safety Committee from the Mayor's
Transition Team.
Police Advisory Council (PAC) members.

Citizens will be able to attend the interviews conducted by
the PAC, which will be shown on CityCable 5, and provide feedback.
Additionally, citizens also can participate in the selection process by
suggesting questions for the candidates.  Suggestions can be emailed to policechiefsearch@spokanecity.org.
The Mayor has said that he is looking for a new Chief
with:

A solid understanding of metro policing
models.
Experience in implementing cutting-edge policing techniques
and approaches.
The ability to be comfortable in the public
eye.
A desire to integrate him or herself into the Spokane
community.
