City Officials Hope To Have New Police Chief In August

SPOKANE, WASH. - City officials say they are optimistic that there will be a new Chief of Police hired in the month of August. On Monday, KHQ reported Indianapolis Public Safety Director Frank Straub applied for the job. That's one of 13 applicants for the position, so today we tried to learn more about who else applied. The Mayor and his staff tell us they're not going to say anything until the finalists are announced.
There are five people that are reviewing the 13 person applicant pool. Those five are former Chief of Police Roger Bragdon, former U.S. Attorney for Eastern Washington Jim McDevitt, City Administrator Theresa Sanders, as well as Cliff Walter, a former police officer and police guild president. The mayor is the fifth. The human resources director is also doing a separate review. Ultimately this committee will help the Mayor narrow down the selection, but at the end of the day it is David Condon's decision.
They will start interviews for the job later this month and move forward from there.
