SPOKANE, Wash. – Garrett Prettyman says he's been targeted by thieves three times in the last few months alone and a total of four or five times since he moved to Spokane's Shadle neighborhood two years ago.
Fed up, KHQ first met him last week, when he tracked suspects by dropping a GPS tracker into one of his gas cans that were stolen.
Now he's been hit again, but this time with better results.
Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, surveillance cameras at Prettyman's home caught two men driving up his yard, cutting through his chain link fence, cutting a cable around equipment on his landscaping trailer and making off with a hedge trimmer.
"They specifically pointed through the fence, and they knew exactly what they wanted, exactly what they came for," Prettyman told KHQ. "That's what really stressed me out after this theft was the aggressiveness of it, you know, are they going to come in my house next?"
Prettyman has a landscaping business, and the equipment that keeps getting stolen is vital to his livelihood; he's spent thousands of dollars on fencing, locks and surveillance cameras, but is frustrated he has to.
"All this extra money I was not planning on spending when I bought the house," he said.
Prettyman searched local pawnshops for his stolen property, and found his hedge trimmer the very next day. Police responded to the pawnshop, and his property is now on hold there pending the prosecution of the case.
He doesn't yet know how much it will cost to fix his fence, but Prettyman tells KHQ he is sleeping better now, knowing the two men who did it were caught on camera and that police are building a case against them.
