Burglar Breaks In Spokane Home With Woman Inside Sleeping

SPOKANE, WASH. - Gregg Jones woke up last Sunday to a burglar inside her home, demanding her money and looking for a safe. She didn't have much money, she doesn't have a safe, but she did have a jewelry box and that is what he got away with.

Now Jones wants you to learn something from her terrible experience. If you walk inside her home you'll see a sliding door that is enclosed by a fence. She thought no one had access to it so up until now, she never locked it. The man that broke in jumped her fence, walked in and that's when everything went wrong. Jones says times have changed and urges people to lock every door no matter how inaccessible you think they may be.

Late last week she installed a security system that includes cameras and a motion sensor if anyone were to walk on her property.

"It feels like I'm living in a prison, but at least I feel safer," Jones said.

Spokane Police now say they will put burglaries at the top of the priority list, especially if they are in progress. Past that, they will evaluate each incident on a case by case basis.
