NORTH SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - A 4-year-old boy was found dead in the trunk of a car Wednesday evening. Crews from Fire District 9 responded to the emergency call. The fire chief told KHQ's Kelsey Watts that when his crews arrived on scene the boy was unconscious.
When crews arrived, the little boy's father was doing CPR, but he was already unresponsive and unconscious. He was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Holy Family Hospital, where he was ultimately declared dead. The boy's mother estimated that her son may have been in the trunk for up to an hour. The high in the neighborhood where he lived was about 93 degrees, and it could have been up to 30 degrees hotter than that inside the trunk of the vehicle he was found in. The death is under investigation, however this appears to have been a tragic accident.
The boy would have turned 5-years-old in September.
