KHQ.COM - Rod and Katherine Soriano spoke to KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus at the Whitman County court house. Their son, Matt Soriano, is named as a suspect in the assault on WSU professor Dr. David Warner. Katherine says her son did not "hit" or "tackle" David Warner. Court documents suggest one of the suspects punched Warner then two others tackled him. Court documents do not say who allegedly did what.
A 5th person named in court documents is Lawrence McDonald. Pullman police originally said McDonald is not a suspect. But Pullman police later told KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus we are looking at "Everyone" named in court documents as a potential suspect. According to the Soriano family they believe McDonald was the instigator in the altercation.
Katherine Soriano says her son told them McDonald was very intoxicated the night of the assault. According to the Soriano's McDonald is an "acquaintance" of Dr. Warner. The Soriano's say McDonald tried to "punch" their son, Matt Soriano and Robert Bean after an argument. Bean is also named as a suspect.
The Soriano's say it was then that Dr. Warner stepped between McDonald, Bean and Soriano to try and prevent a fight and was hit by McDonald then fell to the ground. So far no formal charges have been filed against anyone in this case. Whitman county prosecutors say they are still reviewing evidence and trying to determine the appropriate charges.
Suspects Josh Nantz, Robert Bean and Matt Soriano are scheduled for an April 19th court date. That could be pushed back if formal charges are not filed within the week.
