TBILISI, Georgia (AP) - The leader of the victorious Georgian opposition has launched a strong attack on Mikhail Saakashvili only hours after the president conceded that his party had lost the parliamentary election.
Billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili said Tuesday that most of Saakashvili's widely praised reforms were a joke and that his ideology "was all based on lies."
The victory of Ivanishvili's Georgian Dream coalition puts him in place to become prime minister and his hostile remarks indicate that stormy times are ahead in his relationship with Saakashvili, who will remain president for another year.
Ivanishvili said the international observers were responsible for preventing vote rigging and Saakashvili should be thankful to the opposition that "he was able in the end to save his reputation" as a democratic leader.
