Wing-eating champ 'El Wingador' faces drug charge

WOODBURY HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) - A five-time wing-eating champion known as "El Wingador" is under arrest in New Jersey on a charge of cocaine distribution.
State police say they recovered about $8,000 worth of cocaine and $4,000 cash when they stopped 50-year-old William Simmons on Friday in southern New Jersey. He was driving a Kia Soul decorated with the name El Wingador.
Police say a search of two homes connected to Simmons, of Woodbury Heights, N.J., turned up more evidence.
El Wingador last won Philadelphia's Wing Bowl in 2005 when he gnawed through 162 chicken wings. Wing Bowl was started as a way for Philadelphia sports fans to blow off steam before the Super Bowl and now draws thousands of fans each year.
Simmons is being held on $100,000 bond. The Gloucester County public defender's office declined to comment.
