Volunteers Of All Shapes And Sizes Help At The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery

SPOKANE, Wash. - If a helping hand could be a shinning coin, Dave Simmons would be showering the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery with change.

"It's a big house, gets a lot of use, it seems like we do a little bit of everything," Simmons said.

He spends every Thursday at the nursery fixing, repairing, and building. Just by himself, Dave saves the Nursery thousands of dollars. He donates all of his time, which allows the nursery to spend their money on the kids.

"Dave is amazing because he comes in on a weekly basis and does the maintenance we need around here. For an office full of girls, its nice to have someone who knows what they are doing and can take care of things," said Amy Knapton, who is the Executive Director.

She said the nursery could not be doing nearly as much as it does without the help of their volunteers.

"They walk out of here saying we got so much more than we gave, and we think, how can that possibly be? They don't understand the value of what they just gave us,"
