SPOKANE, Wash. - Vandals appear to have destroyed thousands of dollars worth of pumpkins at a youth ministry's pumpkin sale on Spokane's South Hill. Saturday morning volunteers working at the pumpkin sale at the Our Lady of Fatima Church arrived to find more than a hundred pumpkins smashed and scattered all throughout their parking lot.
A city street worker said he cleaned up about 50 more out in the street. The youth minister says the vandals also damaged their canopy and stole some of their decorations. He estimates the value of the pumpkins destroyed is around $4000.
This is the fourth year the youth ministry at the church has held this pumpkin sale fundraiser. The money raised helps pay to offset costs for the youth ministry program and for students to earn credit for trips and other projects.
