UPDATE Dec. 6th, 2012: On Thursday December 6th, Nathan Meier was arraigned for stabbing his dog, Dakota, last week in the Hillyard area. Meier pleaded not guilty. His trial is set to start on January 28th.
Police tell us he was threatening neighbors with a knife before he attacked the dog.
The dog was seriously injured but will survive.
UPDATE: The Spokane man who was arrested for stabbing his dog, Dakota, over the weekend will not have any custody of any animals, a Spokane County Superior Court judge ruled Monday.Nathan Meier had his first court appearance for Animal Cruelty on Monday. He appeared for the hearing via video conference from the Spokane County Jail.He declined interviews.

UPDATE: Nathan Meier was arrested for allegedly stabbing his dog Dakota over the weekend. The dog will survive but had to have stitches. In a weird twist, Meier used to work at the Blue Mountain Humane Society in Walla Walla. He cleaned kennels there for about a year.

SPOKANE, Wash. - At around 1:00am on Saturday, Spokane Police Officers were called out to a home in the 3700 block of N. Regal in northeast Spokane after a citizen reported that his uncle had a knife and was threatening people.
Officers found the suspect, 24-year-old Nathan Meier, near the home with blood all over him and some wounds to his wrist. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
As police continued to investigate what happened, Officer Rob Boothe found that during the incident, Meier had stabbed his own dog in the neck, causing its throat to be "opened up." The 7-year-old German Shepard mix named Raider was seriously injured in the assault. There is no word on Raider's condition.
When Meier was released from the hospital for the wounds to his wrist, Officer Boothe was waiting for him and arrested him on the felony charge of First Degree Animal Cruelty.
