UPDATE: One Man Killed In Collision Near Airport

Spokane Police Department Press Release:

At about 4:02 pm this afternoon (Saturday 1/5/12) Spokane International Airport Police and Spokane Police Department Officers responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of outbound West Airport Drive and South Spotted Road. The driver of one vehicle was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital. This adult male driver was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. No other parties were transported to the hospital.

The Spokane Police Department is taking the lead role in investigating the incident. Traffic investigators with the department's Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene. Traffic leaving the airport is detoured around the collision scene and the public should anticipate minor delays when leaving the airport for the next several hours.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. The name of the deceased driver is not being released until next of kin are notified.

SPOKANE, Wash. - The intersection of Airport Drive & Spotted Road was closed for hours Saturday afternoon while authorities investigated a two-car collision. 

Firefighters were called out to the scene for an extrication, and one person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
