LEWISTON, Idaho - Idaho State Police say 19-year-old Chad Vincent Gardner is the inmate who died in the Nez Perce County Jail over the weekend.
Gardner was being held on a Kootenai County probation violation. He was being housed in Lewiston due to overcrowding in the Coeur d'Alene.
Our partners at the Spokesman Review say Gardner was a former Coeur d'Alene High School honor student who was charged with raping a 15-year-old girl back in 2008. He was eventually convicted of Felony Injury to a Child in 2009.
The cause of death is still under investigation and we are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
