SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A Haz-Mat crew was dispatched to the Spokane Valley Industrial Park Monday afternoon after a fire in one of the buildings.
Fire officials say an employee was walking in one of the buildings called "The Spokane Foundary" when he saw flames in a room containing chemicals. The employee immediately called 911 and about 75 employees evacuated the building.
The fire itself was put out by the sprinkler system, however the water from the sprinkler system caused an overflow of the chemicals in the room containing the fire. The Haz-Mat team was called in to decontaminate the responding firefighters. We are told the chemical is a "low-hazard" substance and can be washed off with soap and water.
The EPA has been called, and right now there is no word on a cause or an estimate of damage.
