UPDATE: The fire grew overnight and is approximately 20 acres in size. Spokane Fire remains on scene with 2 brush trucks watching for hotspots. It's very smokey in the area. Investigators are looking into a cause. The terrain is very challenging for firefighters. At this hour no structures are threatened.
UPDATE 11:30pm - The fire is 100% contained. Limited crews will be on location through the night and early morning. At this point investigators believe the fire is human caused.
UPDATE 8:55pm - The fire is now 50% contained. Firefighters will be on location all night and into the morning.
UPDATE 8:15pm - Aerial attacks have been suspended for the night because of lack of daylight. Firefighters only have a headlamp on their hard hats to help them navigate the terrain. There are more than 100 firefighters with 30 trucks from four agencies as well as independent contractors.
UPDATE 7:45pm - Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer tells KHQ that the fire is about ten acres and that wind is still a major concern. The fire has burned around a house. Firefighters have been able to save a handful of other homes as well.
BREAKING NEWS: Spokane fire is responding to a brush fire near Myrtle and Courtland near the Esmeralda golf course. High winds and dry conditions have created very dangerous conditions for firefighters.
