BONNERS FERRY, Idaho - A bomb threat caused Bonners Ferry High School to be evacuated for most of the day. Around 8:20 Tuesday morning school officials tell KHQ a student saw a message written on the bathroom wall of a girls bathroom inside the school.
According to superintendent Dick Conley the message written on the wall was "Bom 3:30" with the word bomb spelled incorrectly. Conley says the student immediately told school officials who had all 400 high school students evacuated to the Boundary County middle school about a block away.
A bomb sniffing dog was brought in from the U.S Marshalls Service to do a full search and sweep of the school. No threat was detected. School officials are viewing surveillance video from inside the school to try and determine who wrote the message on the wall.
Students spent most of the day inside the Gymnasium at the Middle School and were let back in to the High School in time for the last two classes of the day. Police tell KHQ that this is the third bomb threat similar in nature that Bonners Ferry schools have dealt with in 3 years.
The first threat police say was a hand written message on a bathroom wall at the junior high school nearly 3 years ago. Last year the High School was again evacuated due to a similar bomb threat during finals week. All three instances no threat was ever found.
School officials say that they take each threat seriously and take every precaution to make sure there is not a legitimate threat to the staff or student body.
