Spokane Valley Fire Department Press Release:
Spokane Valley firefighters responded to a brush and timber fire in the wooded area north of 12700 E. Mansfield at 12:27 today. The 9-1-1 caller reported the fire behind Mirabeau Park and the YMCA with a column of smoke in the trees. Firefighters have responded to several fires started in this area by children and transient campers.
Eight Spokane Valley fire units with assistance from the Department of Natural Resources had the fire contained in just two hours and continuing with mop up to extinguish the hot spots. They went down to swim in the river today and when they returned the fire had spread to dry fuels.
The fire has been turned over to the Department of Natural Resources.
The Spokane Valley Fire Department would like to remind everyone that there is a Burn Ban limiting the type of you can have. Please contact your local fire district for information on the current rules and restrictions.
