MIAMI (AP) - Tropical Storm Nadine has strengthened in the Atlantic but is still far from land.

Nadine's maximum sustained winds increased to near 45 mph (75 kph) early Wednesday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says additional strengthening is expected and Nadine could become a hurricane by Thursday or Thursday night.

The storm is centered about 995 miles (1,605 kilometers) east-northeast of the Lesser Antilles and is moving west-northwest near 17 mph (28 kph).

Nadine's current forecast track shows it eventually curving away from the U.S.
