Tropical Storm Kristy forms in Pacific

MIAMI (AP) - Forecasters say Tropical Storm Kristy has formed off the Mexico coast and that if it deviates north, the southern tip of the Baja, Calif., may be in its path.

Kristy's maximum sustained winds increased to near 45 mph (75 kph) Wednesday evening. It is about 380 miles (610 kilometers) south-southeast of the southern tip of California and moving northwest. No coastal warnings or watches are in effect.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Nadine has strengthened in the Atlantic and could still become a hurricane, but is still far from land.

Nadine's maximum sustained winds increased to near 65 mph (105 kph) Wednesday evening. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Nadine could become a hurricane by Thursday or Thursday night.

The storm is centered about 875 miles (1,410 kilometers) east-northeast of the Lesser Antilles and is moving west-northwest near 17 mph (28 kph).
