FROM THE CITY OF SPOKANE: City crews are out deicing and sanding, concentrating on hills and intersections on arterials. Night crews stayed late to improve the morning commute today.
Street conditions are slick, and City officials are asking people to slow down and drive for conditions this morning.
Remember, City Street crews have been working on winter schedules since Nov. 15. They monitor weather and street conditions 24 hours a day. Two shifts of crews work a total of 20 hours a day. And, like today, they will work longer if conditions warrant it. They apply sand and deicer as needed and move to plowing when there's about an inch of accumulation of snow.
The City's snow removal activities are designed to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians, ensure emergency responders can reach citizens, and enhance movement for pedestrians, motorists and economic activity.
