HYAK, Wash. (AP) - Traffic on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass will be restricted to two lanes - one in each direction - next week. The state Transportation Department is closing lanes from 9 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Friday Oct. 19 to prepare the highway for winter travel along a three-mile stretch on the east side of the summit near Hyak. By next fall the interstate will be widened to six lanes along a stretch of the highway under a cliff. The Daily Record reports (http://is.gd/kClbv7 ) it's part of the $551 million project that included blasting 84,000 dump truck loads of rock from the cliff over the past four years.
