Stolen watch recovered by NY man after 53 years

ENDICOTT, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man whose gold watch was stolen 53 years ago when he was in the Navy has recovered the timepiece after its remarkable reappearance in Las Vegas.

Ed Grigor of Endicott says the watch disappeared in 1959 when he briefly left it unattended on a sink at a base in Virginia.

He had assumed it was gone for good.

But Grigor tells the Press & Sun-Bulletin (http://press.sn/RQVf94 ) that he got a call last month from a Las Vegas man who had found the watch in a box of unclaimed items that sailors had pawned years go at his late mother's guest house in Virginia Beach.

The man was able to track Grigor down because his name was engraved on the back.
