After a summer string of armed robberies at businesses throughout the Spokane area, police say a few of them have been solved with the recent arrests of two people: Andrew Carr, 28 and Marshall Barkdull, 27.
Police believe Carr was the man who went into the Pizza Rita on N. Wall armed with a gun on May 22nd, then hit the Herbal Connection in the Garland District on May 27th before robbing the Hot Toddies coffee stand on June 10th. Police believe Barkdull was the getaway driver in the first two cases, supplied his .22 caliber pistol for Carr to use, and that the pair split the money they stole.
Carr was arrested in August for his role in the Hot Toddies robbery, but last week an inmate at the Spokane County Jail told detectives Carr was also linked to the Pizza Rita and Herbal Connection cases, and implicated Barkdull as well. Records show Carr confessed to police.
Carr is now in jail on two counts of first-degree armed robbery, first-degree burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He's being held on $75,000 bond.
Barkdull made his first court appearance Monday on two counts of first-degree armed robbery, and is being held on $35,000 bond.
Over the summer, the owner of Pizza Rita put up a reward for information leading to imprisonment. It began with 100 pizzas, grew to 200, then $10,000 cash. He told KHQ's Kelsey Watts Monday the reward might still be given out – depending on how the tip came in and whether Barkdull and Carr serve time.
Spokane Police have arrested eight other people in connection to other armed robberies that happened between March and mid-June, at convenience stores, gas stations, banks and grocery stores. However, they are still looking for the suspect(s) behind a few of the cases – most notably the Little Caesar's robbery from May 28th.
