Spokane Police Arrest Burglar; $25,000 Of Stolen Property Recovered

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: Spokane Police patrol officers responded to an alarm at the K-Mart, 4110 E. Sprague, at 3:50am. Ofc. Gene Baldwin arrived on scene and found a front window of the store had been smashed.

He followed footprints in the fresh snow for nearly five blocks, through yards and over fences.  Ofc. Baldwin located the suspect's boots in a pickup truck at 4415 E. 1st Ave. Ofc. Baldwin also found fresh blood on the front screen door, porch floor and front door of the house.

Bockelmann walked out of the house, with no shoes on and very cold, wet feet. His right hand was bleeding and he was holding a green backpack. Inside the backpack were numerous pieces of jewelry, a collapsible baton and lots of broken pieces of glass. Bockelmann used the baton to smash the window of the store and grabbed as many expensive items that he could. 

The stolen jewelry, totaling an excess of $25,000.00 was placed on Police property. Bockelmann was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree Burglary and 1st Degree Theft.
