SPD Chief: Violence Is Unacceptable And Won't Be Tolerated

SPOKANE, Wash. - After a string of violence in the past weeks, Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub reassured the public Wednesday that Spokane Police will investigate and arrest those responsible for violence in our community and work tirelessly to prevent future incidents.

Included in Straub's remarks were the following points:

The Spokane Police Department wants to reassure the community that we will reduce crime. The level of crime being experienced in Spokane is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. SPD is combating crime by utilizing data to conduct strategic enforcement in crime hot-spots and working with neighborhood conditions to prevent problems in hot spots. Gang violence is a top priority for Spokane Police.  We have a gang task force that works solely on combating and preventing these crimes.  Our detectives, officers, and other law enforcement partners are working around the clock to end gang violence. The public is encouraged to assist as well.  If you see something, say something.  Call the police if you know there is a large party or other activities that are causing concern in your neighborhood.  We will send officers out.  Report suspicious activity to Crime Check 456-2233. The Spokane Police Department faces the challenge of decreased manpower, however we are addressing this issue by working smarter and more strategically. We need gun safety; if you own a firearm, safeguard it.  Educate yourself on proper firearms handling.  Firearms and alcohol do not mix.
