Skyfest 2013 Cancelled Due To Budget Cuts

Fairchild Airforce Base Press Release:  FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. – This year's Open House and Air Show, Skyfest 2013, scheduled for May 18-19, is cancelled because of lack of funding due to sequestration. Following sequestration budget cuts, U.S. Air Force leadership directed all open house and air show events to be cancelled. "Team Fairchild is disappointed to have to cancel Skyfest 2013," said Col. Brian Newberry, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "We appreciate the continued support of our Inland Northwest neighbors and wish that we could provide this first class aerial event for them." The scheduled Headlining act for Skyfest 2013, The Air Force Thunderbirds, cancelled all performances after April 1 due to lack of funding. This event was set to be in conjunction with the 75th anniversary celebration of the Licac Festival. "Even though we have to curtail spending, we will continue to ensure that Team Fairchild provides worldwide aerial refueling for our combat forces," said Newberry. "We certainly hope to be able to host an Air Show for our patriotic community in the future -- down the road when fiscal times improve." For more information, please contact the 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs office at (509) 247-5705, (509) 290-0513, 92arw.pa@us.af.mil.
