KHQ.COM - The Humane Society of the United States and The Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for illegally killing a dog and a deer in Newman Lake, Wash. The HSUS reward offer adds to an existing $1,000 reward from the landowner.
According to news reports, on Oct. 25 a deer fawn was found fatally shot by poachers on the private property of a Newman Lake resident off McCoy and Hauser Lake Road. A neighbor's family dog was similarly shot, most likely an unintended target of poachers who were aiming at the deer. The animals were found within five feet of each other.
"Poaching is not only a serious threat to Washington's wildlife, but when it takes place in private residential neighborhoods it places citizens and pets like this innocent dog in harm's way," said Dan Paul, Washington state director for The HSUS. "We hope this reward will bring the person or persons responsible for illegally shooting this deer, and taking this dog's life."
