"I have nobody. I need someone. My name is Amanda Todd." - Canadian schoolgirl Amanda Todd in one of the last cards she displayed in a YouTube video that described years of bullying that drove her to drugs and alcohol. Amanda, 15, died in an apparent suicide.

"On Sept. 7, 2011, you savagely beat your child to the edge of death. For this you must be punished." - State District Judge Larry Mitchell when sentencing Elizabeth Escalona of Dallas to 99 years in prison for beating her 2-year-old daughter and gluing the toddler's hands to a wall.

"Just watching at home, I promise." - Jeffrey Maier, in a text to The Associated Press, after a long drive by Nate McLouth of Baltimore was called just foul in the Orioles' 3-1 loss to the New York Yankees in a deciding playoff game. In 1996, when Maier was 12, he reached over the wall above Baltimore right fielder Tony Tarasco and deflected Derek Jeter's fly ball. Umpire Richie Garcia called it a home run, which tied the score, and the Yankees went on to win in the 11th.
