EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Police say a suspected shoplifter fired a shot Tuesday evening in the Everett Mall as Macy's loss prevention agents accosted him as he was leaving the store. Police spokesman Aaron Snell says no one was hit.
Snell says the employees gained control of the 26-year-old Everett man's handgun and held him for police, who swarmed to the mall after receiving numerous 911 calls about the gunshot.
The police spokesman says the arrested man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries suffered during the fight. Snell says the loss prevention agents were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Both the gun and the bullet have been recovered.
Snell says the man will be booked into jail for investigation of robbery and assault.
Macy's was closed during the Tuesday night investigation but the rest of the mall remained open.
Detectives are investigating whether anyone else was involved.
