Pit Bull Shot After Attacking Couple Walking Their Dog In Lewiston

LEWISTON, Idaho - Saturday morning around 8:30AM, Lewiston Police Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of 24th St North for a pit bull that had been shot by a pedestrian.

Upon arrival officers contacted several subjects. Lewiston residents Wayne and Teresa Adamsadvised they were walking with their dog north-bound on 24th St North when they were charged by an aggressive Pit Bull.  Adams stated he feared for his wife's safety and she said she feared the Pit Bull was going to attack her dog that she was holding. Adams said that as the dog continued to charge at him and his wife, he realized that an attack was imminent. He deployed his pistol and shot one round into the Pit Bull.

Adams and other witnesses stated that although the dog had been shot they still had to physically remove the Pit Bull from their dog. No other animal or person was injured in the incident. The Pit Bull was transported to the Lewiston Vet Clinic where it was treated for a gunshot wound to the head.

The owner of the Pit Bull was identified as a juvenile residing a few houses away from where the incident occurred. Lewiston resident, Elizabeth Taylor, was determined to be the responsible adult party for the Pit Bull and she was subsequently cited for Harboring a Dangerous Dog. Both Wayne and Teresa Adams are lawful holders of Concealed Weapons Permits.
