SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Pet Savers received a grant that will help them spay and neuter about 1,000 feral cats in Spokane and the Spokane Valley in the next year. Pet Smart Charities donated $55,900 to Pet Savers which will go to the costs of the surgery and the cost of the new traps.
Pet Savers purchased 60 new traps that will help with the feral cat problem. They will be loaning the traps out, so if you have a feral cat problem, you can borrow a trap.
Once you catch a feral cat, bring it into the Pet Savers, and they will spay or neuter the cat, give it a rabies shot, and also mark the ear so they know which cats they have fixed. There is a five dollar co-pay for each cat.
This program is starting off this year in the zip codes 99217 and 99207. Pet Savers says that this is the area that has the largest problem. If you would like to borrow a trap, you have to go to an education meeting and learn how to work these traps. That meeting will be at SpokAnimal on Thursday, July 12th.
