One Man In Custody After SWAT Situation

10:10pm UPDATE - North Division is now open. The man in custody is 23-year-old Ivany Vasyvahnevich. He faces charges of Second Degree Burglary.

9:00pm UPDATE

SPOKANE, Wash. - One man is in custody Friday night after he barricaded himself inside the White Elephant Surplus Store.

The first call came in just after 7:00pm Friday evening when a store employee noticed someone trying to enter through the roof. That employee then call 911.

Police and SWAT responded and surrounded the store, concerned with the large amounts of firearms and ammunition for sale inside. Negotiators tried communicating with the person barricaded inside. The lock on the front door was cut off, and a white male was taken into custody. He is facing burglary charges.

Police are now sweeping the entire building to make sure there are no more people inside.

Division St. at Indiana Ave. is closed.

You are asked to avoid the area.

8:13pm UPDATE: Spokane police just took a suspect into custody after walking out of the White Elephant backwards with his hands up.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Right now Division at Indiana is shut down as SWAT teams negotiate with a person that refuses to come out of the White Elephant store.

Police have just cut the door open on the Division side of the building.
