The Next Chapter Begins: Move-In Day At WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. - Summer is winding down for thousands of students heading off to college. This weekend, more than 4,000 Cougar freshmen are moving into their new digs on the Washington State University campus.

All Saturday afternoon, family after family, with their arms loaded making trips in and out of dorms and KHQ caught up with the Dotson family who made the trip from their home in Bellevue today to move their daughter, and while they're all excited, it's also a little hard."I've always been ready to go to college and leave home, but now that it's actually happening, it's like oh I'm not going to have my parents here, so it's kind of nerve racking, but I'm still really excited to be independent," said Chanel Dotson as she talked about her big transition. Being a Coug runs in the family.  Both mom and dad went to WSU, and an older sister just graduated in May.It will be busy first semester for this Spanish and Advertising double major.Chanel is just one of 4100 new freshmen on campus and we saw many hauling bags, and saying goodbye to parents. It is sad to leave, but Chanel told says she's also excited to start this new chapter in her life. She already knows her roommate - it's her best friend from childhood - who's dad was in the same fraternity with her dad here at WSU.

Saturday marked another generation kicking off another new year.
