ODESSA, Wash. (AP) - A fire destroyed a grain elevator at Odessa and damaged the wheat, barley and canola stored inside. Odessa Fire Chief Don Strebeck estimates damage to the Odessa Union Warehouse Cooperative at more than $500,000. He says it was about a quarter full with 15,000 bushels of grain, worth about $120,000. After the damaged grain is scraped away, the remaining grain may be salvaged as animal feed. Strebeck says the fire broke out at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and destroyed the tall silo and an attached older wooden building. No evacuations were necessary. Fire hoses stretched across railroad tracks briefly blocked a train. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Strebeck says it's not suspicious.

ODESSA, Wash. - On Tuesday night firefighters battled a massive fire at a grain elevator in Odessa.
The fire started around 8:00pm Tuesday night at the Odessa Union Warehouse and firefighters told our crews on scene that the plan of attack is to let the fire burn itself out through the night in an effort to salvage the grain inside. They say more water will do more harm than the fire. We are told the elevators contain wheat, barley, and canola.Though a cause has not yet been determined, officials say there is no indication this fire is suspicious.
