More than 40 rescues in Lake Mead area on Fourth

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Park officials say they rescued more than 40 people at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area amid Fourth of July winds that capsized some boats.
National Park Service spokesman Randy Lavasseur says monsoon conditions Wednesday were partly to blame for six watercraft accidents, two disabled vessels, and four medical calls.
Gusts that reached 50 mph formed waves that battered some boats, but park spokesman Kevin Turner says nobody was injured in the capsizings.
Officials say one man on the water was taken to the hospital with a leg injury that wasn't related to the sunken boats. Another man nearly drowned and was airlifted to Las Vegas.
Rangers say they're expecting half a million visitors at Lake Mohave and Lake Mead in the 10 days on and around the holiday.
