Miners Memorial In Need Of Repairs

SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho - The Sunshine Miners Memorial in the Silver Valley is in need of some major repairs.

The memorial, near Kellogg, honors the 91 men that lost their lives in 1972 in the worst mining disaster in Idaho history.

The rock wall around the memorial is making it unsafe for visitors because of recent landslides.

Shoshone County officials are scrambling to come up with more than $100,000 dollars to fix it.

About $50,000 dollars of that is covered by insurance, but the rest is an unexpected cost to Shoshone County, stretching the budget thin.

The goal is to get the memorial open by May 2nd.

The county is also seeking donations to help out for the expensive fixes.

County officials say there's not threat of it being closed off to the public for good.
