NEW YORK (AP) - Former U.S. ambassador Swanee Hunt has announced a multimillion dollar pledge to support a landmark U.N. resolution calling for women to be included in decision-making positions at every level of peacemaking and peacebuilding.
Hunt, a lecturer at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, said Tuesday that The Institute for Inclusive Security which she chairs will provide $2 million per year for the foreseeable future to advance women's participation in peace efforts, as called for in the 2000 resolution.
"We estimate that the contributions of our eight partners will total an additional two million per year," she said.
Hunt announced the pledges during the Clinton Global Initiative which ended Tuesday.
