EXAMINER.COM - On May 20, following the devastating EF-5 tornado which ripped through Moore, Okla., one dog provided his deceased guardian with one final act of loyalty.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, as reported in the Huffington Post, the dog, whose photo was taken by a deputy that day and then Tweeted to followers, was standing guard over his guardian's body.
The dog, whose coat is muddied and wet, appeared frightened in the photo, yet steadfast in his unyielding devotion to the person who would never rise from amidst the devastation.
On Tuesday, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office posted an update to the photo:
Today we found out the story behind the picture. The dog was standing guard over a deceased individual, possibly it's owner, in Moore following the tornado there. The dog was taken to a shelter and the deputy who found the pup, if possible, plans on adopting the dog. Man's best friend to the end.
According to the New York Times, Wednesday's efforts have mostly shifted from rescue to recovery. Thousands of homes were destroyed in the giant twister and 24 people were killed.
